April 16th – He Is Risen Indeed

It was in Moscow, shortly after the Russian revolution that it happened. A mass meeting of workers was taking place. Complete freedom of speech was guaranteed, but each speech had to be brief.Impassioned speech followed one after another, all extolling the stock arguments of the victory of the proletariat in a mechanistic world. “Anyone want to speak against” the leader asked, and a small under-nourished priest took the stand. “Only five minutes” he was warned.
He said “I won’t need five minutes” ,and addressed the crowd: “You have heard all the arguments about the new view of the world of men and the force of revolution, but my friends – Christ is risen”.

We, in our atheistic culture, might have expected a roar of jeering laughter, but not those Russians who had been brought up by the Orthodox Church to observe the mourning and discipline of Lent and then at the Easter Midnight or Dawn Service which would be ignited by the presiding priest lighting the candle in a blacked-out church, and announcing “Christ is Risen”, and the people hugging and kissing each other responding with a shout “He is risen indeed”.That little priest put his finger on the supernatural – on what men of power together can never do, namely touch the Breath of life. “Christ is risen” he called, and from a thousand throats burst the thunder “He is risen indeed”.

This was no clever trick to play with human emotions. This was the final reply to cold atheism and its mechanical view of the universe. The Resurrection of Christ is God’s answer to this world in revolt.God is real.God is personal. Even murdering the Lord of Heaven does not defeat him, for “Christ is risen” – “He is risen indeed”.

Walk this day in the presence of the Risen, Living, Lord, who loves you. Listen to Jesus talking to grief-stricken Martha:
“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord” she told him “I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God”. John 11: 25-27John 11: 25-27
English: King James Version (1611) - KJV

25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? 27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

A Prayer:
We are amazed and filled with adoration, O God, for Christ is Risen, and is victor over all.

Now read John Ch.11.

Thought 4 The Day

Let us beware of being wiser than God. What he has written He has written not for our opinion but for our obedience. (Anon)
