“As for me, I came so close to the edge of the cliff my feet were slipping and I was almost gone”. I’m reading from Psalm 73. What was it that brought the man to the edge of the cliff?
I was envious at the prosperity of proud and wicked people All through life their road is smooth, they seem to grow sleek and well groomed. They’re not in trouble; they don’t have problems like everyone else.
These fat cats have everything their hearts could wish for. They scoff at God and threaten His people and how proudly they speak. They even boast against heaven and their words strut around through the earth and God’s people get dismayed and confused and drink it all in.
Does God realise what’s going on? they ask. Look at these arrogant men, they never lift a finger, their life is one of ease, and all the time their money increases. Have I been wasting my time? Why take the trouble to be good’
Now get your Bible out and read Psalm 73. But don’t stop till you get to the end, because by that time you’ll have covered some solutions that he finds to his problems about falling over the cliff of envy.
He says, when I saw how stupid I’d been about this, how ignorant, I said I must be like an animal to you,
0 God, but even then you love me, you’re holding me with your right hand, you will keep on guiding me all my life with your wisdom and counsel and afterwards receive me into the glories of heaven.
This Psalm has got a lot to tell you, so read it today.
